Last Wednesday, I went to my school’s auditorium to listen to Sebastian De Pascuale speak. The title of his presentation was “Enchantment Overhead- Discovering the Science of Space Weather.” Going in, I had no idea what space weather was, and to be honest, I still have no clue. This doesn’t mean that it wasn’t worth my time to listen to this guy talk for about 40 minutes. While I didn’t learn much about space weather, I did learn a lot about finding success.
In life we must help ourselves. We won’t go anywhere if we don’t use our resources and opportunities. During his presentation, Pascale had four principles that he talked about. They included getting in the zone, jumping for opportunity, igniting your fire, and sailing with a mentor. These principles can be applicable to anyone and anything.
Igniting your fire really highlights the idea of finding something you are passionate about. Look for things that you love and enjoy doing, and go from there. After that, get in the zone. Take your passions and build off of them. What types of careers could you pursue that involve what you love? Next, jump for opportunity! Take any and all chances you get to do things that involve what you are passionate about. Don’t be afraid to try new and challenging things that can help you figure out what you want to do. Lastly, sail with a mentor. Mentors are great because they can give so much knowledge to you. Find someone that knows a lot about what you are interested in. Not only can you learn a lot from them, but they can also lead you to other opportunities and connections that you may not have found otherwise.
When it comes to finding success in life, be outgoing! You’ll never get where you want to be by sitting back and being lazy. You need to be a hard worker that is willing to get out there. Of course you will hit bumps along the way, but if you do all of these things, you are sure to find success in life.
